The Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency (TEQSA) is Australia's independent national quality assurance and regulatory agency for higher education. TEQSA's purpose is to deliver quality assurance that protects the interests of students and the reputation and standing of Australian higher education.

As an independent quality assurance and regulatory agency, TEQSA adopts a risk-based approach that is guided by principles of necessity, risk, and proportionality, that supports quality, diversity, innovation, and excellence in tertiary education.

Reporting to the CEO, and working closely with the Executive Leadership Team, the Executive Director Regulatory Operations is crucial in advising the TEQSA Commission on strategic regulatory matters and representing TEQSA to external stakeholders. This role significantly shapes the agency's culture and capability, promoting exemplary behaviors aligned with APS and TEQSA values. The Executive Director is responsible for building a high-performing team to manage a schedule of regulatory assessments and compliance investigations within statutory timeframes, using an evolving risk framework. They are expected to provide strategic advice, manage complex problems and enable organisational change via collaboration across our policy, analysis, engagement, and information management functions. Building productive relationships with multiple stakeholders while delivering continuous improvement outcomes is crucial to the success of this position. This role is located in Melbourne.

To be considered for this role, you will have demonstrated your outstanding analytical skill in providing evidence-based policy and program advice for decision-making, with a proven ability to achieve organisational outcomes in a complex regulatory environment. You are an experienced leader with exceptional people management skills, creating and fostering an environment of support for staff development. You will have excellent stakeholder management, communication, negotiation, and influencing skills to represent and negotiate on behalf of the agency. It is essential that you have a strong ability to handle uncertainty, a capability to effectively manage risk and resolve issues proactively. You have a strong track record in leading multi-disciplinary teams to deliver excellent service while empowering your team. An understanding of TEQSA's regulatory processes and risk framework, or equivalent regulatory, risk or quality assurance experience and the ability to gain this understanding, is crucial for success in this role.
