The role


The Communications Specialist brings the BIG W communications plan to life through partnering with the business to deliver clear, concise and purposeful messages delivered to the right people, at the right time through the right channels to grow team & customer advocacy.

No two days are the same.

One day you could be working side by side with a senior leader to help land a key program of work, and the next you'll be supporting our store teams with the most important job of all - caring for our customers.

Reporting into the Communications Manager your main responsibilities will include:

  • Inspire a love for the BIG W brand by endorsing, advocating and delivering our Purpose, Ways of Working, Values and ambition.
  • End to end collaboration to ensure our team receives the right message at the right time by coordinating, developing, reviewing and delivering BAU communications through the Store Portal and Store Planner.
  • Support our stores by ensuring communications are clear, concise and purposeful, but also engaging and relevant
  • Be a valued partner to the communications team, leaders and end to end team and provide appropriate communications advice about how to best engage our teams
  • Have a solid grasp of the different communications mediums so you always pick the right tools for the job
  • Simplifying, maintaining and continuously improving the Store Communications Portal and Store Planner, and delivering at the agreed timelines.
  • Work collaboratively with the Communications team to support communication initiatives, events, change initiatives, projects and BAU.
  • Align with communications ways of working to ensure timelines are met, queries are resolved, appropriate stakeholders are engaged and processes are efficient.
  • Continuously review our communications channels and success metrics and contribute to post implementation reviews for continuous improvement and team advocacy.
This is a permanent role with WFH flexibility.

About You
To be successful in this role and thrive in our turnaround culture, you will need to be able to demonstrate the following:

  • Previous experience as a communications specialist for a large business
  • Able to leverage multiple platforms and tools to communicate important messages
  • Good stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence and positively engage with others
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Proficiency in digital platforms would be an advantage (ie developing slide packs, AV, event production, graphic design, video production)
