The Market Conduct and Digital Division is seeking a director to lead the Treasury's work on reforming the legislative and governance arrangements for Australia's financial reporting bodies.

The key duties of the position include
As a
Director in Markets Group, your role will involve a range of activities, including:

  • lead a team of people to identify opportunities for improving policy settings and navigate policy issues as they emerge
  • develop and implement strategic directions for the unit, and manage competing priorities effectively
  • build team capability through coaching, providing performance feedback and encouraging career development
  • develop and maintain productive relationships with other government agencies and with stakeholders in the private sector and in academia
  • have accountability for briefings to ministers and senior officials, inputs to speeches, replies to parliamentary questions and other correspondence
  • represent Treasury at whole of government and/or industry meetings


This role also involves providing leadership and staff support to members of the Corporations Branch that are based in Melbourne.

This includes being a primary contact for organisational matters affecting Corporations Branch's Melbourne operations.

To perform these functions, you would be expected to:

show leadership: be proactive, innovative and inclusive, while helping to maintain a fun and rewarding place to work

engage effectively: build and draw upon relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including regulators, advocacy groups and corporations

navigate strategic context: understand and shape the policy landscape, identify opportunities and show good judgement

deliver results: deliver timely and high-quality outcomes that influence policy makers and effectively implement the Government's decisions

Required and Desirable Qualifications / Experience

  • The successful applicant will have tertiary qualification(s) related to corporations law and be able to demonstrate a contemporary understanding of the Australian corporations legislation.
  • Experience in policy reform and legislative development is required.
  • Experience in regulatory oversight, surveillance or enforcement will be very well regarded.
