Adelaide Region SA, Australia The University of Adelaide Full time

(Level A) $91,402 or (Level B) $102,952 per annum plus an employer contribution of 17% superannuation applies.

The positions include aspects of molecular-beam epitaxy (MBE) crystal growth, optical device fabrication using wet and dry lithography, and optical characterisation.

Compound semiconductors of group III and arsenic, phosphorus, and antimony will be under investigation.

Other related areas of interest include nanophononics, the fabrication of quantum light sources, and single-photon resolving superconducting detectors, and III-V based solar cells.

We are seeking motivated, independent, and experienced researchers. The post-doctoral researcher will help lead the research and development of our semiconductor-based laser program. The individuals will work with undergraduate and graduate students, as well as undertake direct researcher efforts.

The individual will assume some management responsibilities in the laboratory, depending on the position level; however, hand-on laboratory work remains an important role.

Commitment to the principles of equity, diversity and inclusion, and the ability to contribute to the diversity of these research areas is crucial.

While centred in Physics, our efforts operate at the nexus of the School of Physical Sciences (Physics), the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, the School of Chemical Engineering, and the Institute of Photonics and Advanced Sensing (IPAS) at The University of Adelaide, with close ties to the Defence Science and Technology Group (DSTG).

This unique, close working environment between different entities will create a dynamic experience.

To be successful at Level A you will need:

  • PhD in physics, applied physics, electrical engineering, material engineering, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in disciplines related to one or more of the following: MBE crystal growth of III-V compound semiconductor, fabrication of optical and optoelectronic devices, and characterisation and testing of semiconductorbased materials and optical structures and devices. Modelling and simulation abilities are a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct independent research in addition to working effectively as a member of a crossdisciplinary team.

In the addition to the above, to be successful at Level B you will need:

  • Post-doctoral research experience, publications, conference papers, reports or professional or technical contributions.
  • Experience in the supervision of researchsupport staff.
