Arc Grant-funded Researcher

Adelaide Region SA, Australia The University of Adelaide Full time

**$91,402 to $ 97,927 (Level A) per annum plus an employer contribution of 17% superannuation applies.**

**Fixed term position for three years, extension beyond this would be contingent upon future funding which cannot be guaranteed at this time.**

The University of Adelaide High Energy Physics group has an available position for a postdoctoral research associate to work on the ATLAS experiment for a period of 3 years. The ARC Grant-Funded Researcher (A) will be supported from the ‘Centre for the Subatomic Structure of Matter (CSSM)’.

The position will focus on data analysis in relation to searching for beyond Standard Model physics and is supported by funding from a Discovery Project granted by the Australian Research Council titled ‘New Techniques for New Physics Searches at the CERN Large Hadron Collider’. This project aims to break new ground in the quest to discover the existence of new fundamental constituents of nature. In order to achieve this, the team will invent and deploy a suite of advanced machine learning and anomaly detection techniques, developed by the chief investigators, to mine the data processed and collected with the ATLAS experiment at CERN. There will be opportunities to travel to CERN, and to spend extended time at the University of Manchester under the supervision of our Partner Investigator, Professor Caterina Doglioni.

The School of Physical Sciences at the University of Adelaide hosts strong groups in high energy physics working on the ATLAS, Belle II, CTA, HESS, IceCube, LIGO, Pierre Auger and SABRE experiments. Close collaboration between theorists and experimentalists is actively encouraged within our group.

**To be successful you will need**:

- PhD or equivalent degree (or thesis submitted) in experimental particle and/or nuclear physics, or in an area of direct relevance.
- A commitment to research excellence in experimental particle/nuclear physics and a demonstrated publication track record in leading scientific journals.
- Demonstrated ability to conduct independent research and to work effectively as a member of a research team.
- Very good verbal, written, communication, interpersonal, organisational and time management skills.
