Fixed term, part-time (0.8FTE) opportunity available for three years.


This ARC Grant Funded Researcher (B) position is an opportunity to creatively rethink approaches to obesity through collective solutions of care in contexts of poverty and food insecurity.

It will use ethnographic methods to investigate practices of everyday care within and across families living in Adelaide, South Australia, examining how sharing local knowledge and skills can lead to transformational change.

It is part of an ARC Linkage Project titled 'Situating Care:

Addressing obesity through social models of care in disadvantaged communities' in a research group led by Prof Megan Warin.

The successful applicant will be part of a vibrant research team, including academics from the University of Adelaide, Monash, Princeton and Oxford, and industry partners from the Australian Centre for Social Innovation and Uniting Communities.


To be successful you will need:

  • A PhD in anthropology or a related discipline (e.g. sociology, gender studies, science and technology studies).
  • Demonstrated capacity to undertake, collate and analyse ethnographic and/or qualitative research
  • Conceptual knowledge related to the anthropology of food, bodies and health and/or critical approaches to care.
  • Demonstrated capacity to publish, and disseminate research findings through
presentations or other forums (e.g.exhibitions).

  • Capacity to work independently as well as in teams, and to deliver outcomes on time and budget
  • This position requires a valid Working with Children Check._
