Teachers and school administrators employed at Hedland Senior High School in 2024 are eligible to receive an Attraction and Retention Incentive of $10,000 (pa, gross – to be adjusted pro rata for FTE and tenure). Eligible staff will receive a percentage of this payment on commencement at the school, with the remainder paid at the end of the school year. Staff must remain employed in the location until the end of the school year to be eligible to receive the second payment.

The ARI payment is in addition to other incentives that may apply in this school.

About the role

Teachers in Hedland SHS Arts team are focused on creating outstanding outcomes for students and empowering every student who enters our classrooms. Our teachers foster creativity and critical thinking, through using a range of teaching and learning strategies, that engage all students and meet their individual needs. At Hedland, our teachers design lessons that are relevant and meaningful to enhance student outcomes.

In this role, the applicant demonstrates knowledge of the Arts Western Australian Curriculum and the capacity to teach in a variety of Arts contexts- experience in Visual Arts, Music or Dance are beneficial. Our Specialist Arts Program is a priority and applicants will help contribute positively to the continued growth of the program through extra-curricular events and activities.

The ideal teacher

The successful applicant will work as part of a team to enable all students to learn and study at school in a cooperative and positive environment. You will ideally be highly organised and have excellent problem solving and analytical skills.

You will model strong teaching and learning strategies in your delivery. Suitable applicants will ideally possess a repertoire of teaching strategies to engage students, ideally having knowledge of and experience in, a range of instructional strategies and tactics.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team environment will be well regarded, as well as a willingness to engage in professional learning and liaise with colleagues, parents and external networks to establish strong community partnerships.

As a skilled and experienced teacher, you will have a commitment to excellence in teaching and engage in regular self-reflection.
