Jewish Care Employment Centre (EC)

  • Full Time position on a Fixed Term up to 14 month contract (end date: 30/06/2024)

  • Jewish Care Victoria, a notforprofit organisation, is the largest provider of aged and community services for the Jewish Community in Victoria. Services include Aged Residential Care, Assessment Referral and Individual Support Services, Community Aged Care, Disability, Mental Health, Youth and Family Services and Holocaust Survivors Programs.
  • Over the past three years we have been conducting a project with funding from the Department of Social Services to investigate what is required to encourage and assist small to medium size enterprises to recruit people living with a disability. This project is about challenging myths, reducing bias and unconscious bias, through providing information about various disabilities and providing examples of successful integration in an employment setting. The project, is now heading towards its service delivery phase using the material developed in year 1/ phase 1 to attract small to medium size businesses.
    The key responsibilities of this role are:
  • Responsible for continuing with the various requirements for undertaking this project.
  • Be available to assist Small to Medium size enterprises to develop pathways for including people with disabilities into their staff make up.
  • Respond to enquiries from businesses who are interested in recruiting people with a disability.
  • Help businesses by:Dealing with a lack of understanding and unfounded myths from within the business about people with a disability. This includes education and training of business management and staff.
  • Develop a pathway for the business to employ a person with a disability including liaison with employment services and disability specific organisations, including access to any wage or equipment subsidies available.
  • Assist the business with any barriers or concerns that come up during the process. Actively work to place participants into employment vacancies and assist with reverse marketing and customised employment plans with employers;

To be successful in this role you will have to:

  • Be empathetic, creative, accountable and efficient.
  • Experience in the employment sector and demonstrated understanding of employment support programs particularly those available for people with a disability.
  • Some experience working with people living with a disability which may affect their ability to find and maintain openemployment ;
  • Project management experience.
  • Appreciate or develop an understanding of the Jewish Community and its unique needs;
