Working in Healthcare has never been more important or meaningful

Our Journey:

The Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) service, through Developmental Paediatrics, provides specialist multidisciplinary assessments for children with pre-natal alcohol exposure, who show complex neurological, developmental, and behavioural symptoms.

The service delivers education, information, and resources to communities at high risk of FASD, and provides clinical training in FASD diagnosis for paediatricians, psychologists, speech therapists, occupational therapists and social workers.

These new roles reflect the expansion of the current service provided to children in regional Victoria.

A Day in the Life:

Based at one of our three regional locations and working as part of the FASD team, the Regional Navigator will bring their local knowledge of community health and education services to lead improvements in access to care for children and families affected by alcohol in their region, within the support, supervision and training of the broader VicFAS team.

You will facilitate referral pathways for children in your catchment, coordinate operational requirements for assessments, and integrate with the central VicFAS team.

You will be involved in direct assessment clinics at least twice a year, contribute to or coordinate local assessments within your discipline and ensure a flexible approach to assessment, facilitating local clinicians in providing assessments within existing services and schools where possible.

You will also contribute to feedback appointments with the child's school and carers.

In your role, you will establish links with relevant healthcare providers, liaise with local specialist referrers, and will support referring paediatricians through the delivery of post-diagnosis support in relation to implementation of diagnostic recommendations and knowledge of local therapists.

What You Bring:

To be successful in this role you have significant skills and experience in a paediatrics field, preferably with children who show complex neurological, developmental, and behavioural symptoms and experience working with families with complex social issues that includes the involvement of child protection.

Prior experience of working with children with developmental disabilities is required. You have a passion to support children in your regional location, and are keen to be part of a dynamic, multi-disciplinary team that is building this innovative service

On a Personal Level, you are:

  • Dedicated to safe best practice & quality care
  • Committed to delivering patient centred care & a patient advocacy
  • Enthusiastic, compassionate & able to work collaboratively
  • Excited to be accountable for and manage specific portfolios in our relentless pursuit of excellence

What you need:

  • Extensive relevant experience in either paediatric allied health, psychology or education
  • Approved qualification in either Allied Health, Psychology or Education
  • Current relevant discipline specific professional membership, accreditation and registrations
  • Experience in supporting children and their families, particularly where parents experience complex social issues including alcohol and substance use, mental health and family violence, and/or child protection involvement.
  • Demonstrated experience as indicated in position description
  • A valid driver's licence and access to a reliable vehicle
  • Australian working rights

In Return:

You'll be part of a strong, passionate and communicative multidisciplinary team where you can utilise your skills and experience to enhance and support this vital service as we advocate for our patients and their families and continue to pursue the expansion of this service in Victoria.
