Metro South Health (MSH) is seeking an outstanding Executive Director of Nursing and Midwifery Services (EDNMS) to lead professional excellence across the service. In this highly influential role, you will not only ensure the highest standards of care through the nursing and midwifery workforce, you will also play a key role in contributing to the professional landscape in MSH, Queensland Health and beyond.

This pivotal role provides high-level advice to the Chief Executive Officer and Board on all matters related to nursing and midwifery, ensuring a robust governance framework, and maintaining professional standards for over 8,000 nursing and midwifery staff.

About the Role

The Executive Director, Nursing and Midwifery Services is a key member of the MSH executive team, responsible for strategic leadership, governance, and operational oversight. The appointee will ensure the professional practice framework supports high standards of safety, quality, and functionality, enhancing patient care and organisational excellence. The Executive Director will provide strategic and operational leadership for nursing and midwifery services across MSH, overseeing governance, innovation, education, workforce development, research, recruitment, and retention strategies.

Additionally, the EDNMS will play a leadership role in the ongoing development of the nursing and midwifery profession beyond the bounds of MSH, contributing to workforce and professional development strategies at a State, National and International level.

The EDNMS ensures compliance with WHS and industrial relations legislation and managing financial and human resources effectively. The appointee will foster relationships with senior stakeholders, government departments, and external partners, implementing robust governance systems to enhance service delivery and professional practice. Additionally, this role will drive strategic planning and performance improvement initiatives, leading the development and execution of nursing and midwifery strategic plans aligned with MSH priorities.

  • Extensive experience in a senior leadership role within a large healthcare organisation, with expertise in nursing and midwifery.
  • Strong capabilities in strategic planning, financial management, and governance.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain senior stakeholder relationships and foster organizational growth.
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills, with a focus on team leadership and high-performance culture.
  • In-depth knowledge of WHS, industrial relations, and professional standards.
  • A commitment to professional excellence, innovation, and continuous improvement.
  • A track record of enabling, or personally leading research in relevant areas.
