The role

The Assistant Director of Midwifery (ADOM) demonstrates a comprehensive knowledge of the midwifery profession, active professional engagement, midwifery education, research and evidence-based practice and the development of innovative strategies across Queensland.

The focus of the role is to ensure relevant governance tools and strategies are in place to assure safety and quality of innovative maternity models of care.

The ADOM demonstrates recent competence in the provision of midwifery care as specified by registration requirements, NMBA standards and codes, educational preparation, relevant legislation, and context of care.

The successful person

To be successful in this role you will have a comprehensive understanding and a breadth of experience in quality and safety, midwifery governance, health management, policy development and/or professional education and training.

You will also have demonstrated ability to multitask, and priority set complex issues, in a highly visible and politically sensitive sector, including the ability to report to the Director of Midwifery and or departmental leaders including CNMO on midwifery professional issues.

You will have previous experience writing high level reports, briefs and strategic responses as required as well as a sound understanding of human resource, industrial and system frameworks that impact on midwifery resource management.


In addition to this, you will have the proven ability to communicate with influence, interpersonal, negotiation and stakeholder engagement skills and the ability to cultivate productive working relationships and networks.

The role of the Clinical Excellence Division is to drive the patient safety, quality improvement and clinical improvement agendas for the Queensland health system.

It will achieve this by identifying, monitoring, and promoting improvements in the quality of health services delivered by service providers (both Hospital and Health Services and private health facilities, globally and within Queensland), and support and facilitate the dissemination of best-practice clinical standards and processes that achieve better outcomes for patients.

The quality improvement agenda is actively supported by a significant research agenda and a system wide strategic focus on building the culture, and leadership and management capability of clinicians.

The Division is also accountable for setting and supporting the direction for mental health, alcohol, and other drug services in Queensland, as well monitoring and reporting on performance.
