The Manager, Research Analytics Services, leads and manages a specialist team in Swinburne's Research Services responsible for key functions related to the collection, management, reporting and analysis of enterprise research data used to measure performance, inform strategy, and fulfil reporting and compliance requirements.

Specifically, the team manages the University's publications and non-traditional research output collections; administers data and policy for research performance evaluations; provides training and advice in relation to research data management and open science initiatives; undertakes bespoke software and report development and modelling; undertakes data administration for enterprise research systems; manages data quality and data governance for the research portfolio; and ensures all internal and external research reporting and compliance requirements are met.


The Manager, Research Analytics Services, is expected to ensure the effective management of people, systems and processes that support and enable the synthesis and analysis of research data that delivers deep insights and business intelligence for the University.


Reporting to the Director, Research Services, this position will support overall strategic direction and is expected to advise on issues including options, resources, project planning and risks and to ensure coordination of relevant activities across the University.

The Manager will work closely with the Swinburne Research Leadership and teams across Swinburne Research and the University to support the research enterprise.


About You
To be suitable for this role you will need to have experience in the below key accountabilities:

  • Experience and expertise in complex data collection, analysis and reporting role within a large organisation.
  • Organisational and project management experience in scoping, planning and managing complex projects, preferably in relation to university performance, rankings, management information systems or other large administrative projects.
  • Written and oral communication skills, with an ability to communicate specialist and complex information effectively, and ability to prepare high level correspondence, reports, advisory notes and the delivery of information sessions and similar.
  • Ability to identify data needs and potential information value from disparate sources of data, and to deliver that value to lead and aid strategic decisionmaking.
  • Knowledge of the higher education and research sectors in Australia, and current awareness of Federal and State Government policies on higher education and research, especially in relation to research funding, research impact, TEQSA threshold standards and national research evaluation exercises.
  • Ability to influence and form working relationships with relevant stakeholders and provide quality advice to clients at all organisational levels.
  • Ability to lead a professional team, including workforce planning, staff supervision, performance development and major change initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Postgraduate qualifications and extensive relevant experience; or extensive management experience and proven management expertise; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/ training.
