Overview


The Aboriginal Liaison Officer position is the only Aboriginal Liaison position for the Yorke Peninsula area within Yorke and Northern Local Health Network (YNLHN).


  • The Aboriginal Liaison Officer is responsible for acting as a cultural broker assisting Aboriginal clients to access appropriate services and assisting these services to meet the needs of Aboriginal people. The Aboriginal Liaison Officer will follow up Aboriginal Health Service clients with home and hospital visits, if appropriate and with client approval, to provide a continuum of health care until the community member is restored to maximum level of health and social and cultural wellbeing in their community of choice.
  • In this role you will:
  • Meet where possible with all Aboriginal patients who choose to be seen by the Liaison Worker,
  • Contribute to a twoway understanding of the need to balance Aboriginal cultural needs and Health Service needs with effective communication between all parties,
  • Contribute to effective and appropriate communication between Aboriginal hospital inpatients and outpatients and health staff by facilitating the provision of an appropriate interpreter when required,
  • Develop partnerships with the members of the Wallaroo and Maitland hospital health staff Aboriginal Health Advisory group, the Aboriginal Community, and other relevant people,
  • Working with Aboriginal people and their families, using a range of models in assessment and intervention.
In this role you will be liaising with clients and staff from different communities. You will require a solid understanding of a liaison role as a conduit between services.

Eligibility to Apply


You must identify as Aboriginal or Torrens Strait Islander or both, and have the ability to communicate effectively (interpersonal, verbal and written) with Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people, developing networks for the benefit of the organization and client base.

You will also be able to liaise and negotiate with Aboriginal persons, health service providers and relevant agencies to encourage cooperation and participation in activities associated with service delivery.
