In this role, you'll:

be working as part of Transport's Infrastructure and Place division, learning to develop and deliver transport infrastructure across NSW.

You will become a trusted partner to our clients by providing smart, integrated and sustainable infrastructure and places that will be highly valued by our customers and communities alike.

You will be able to gain practical experience whilst studying towards your Cert IV in Laboratory Techniques.

You will be involved in hands on training in construction materials testing including collecting construction materials from sites and stockpile samples, testing and calculations.

This isn't your usual sterilised white laboratory environment; you will be handling dirt and rocks and learning how to follow safety critical methods, procedures and protocols in what can be a dangerous environment.


You will be part of future planning to connect people, communities and industry and manage how we use our road networks and services.

About you


You live in or near Newcastle, Parkes or Wollongong; you might be a school leaver or someone with a few years' work experience looking for a career change.

But what's for certain is that you're enthusiastic and eager to learn whilst being an active listener so can follow detailed instructions.

You're also a rare combination consisting of mathematical whizz, safety focused with excellent data entry skills.


You also love getting your hands dirty and are prepared to work on construction sites with heavy plant and traffic conditions to obtain test samples.

You thrive in a team-based environment, are willing and happy to travel to different sites and at times work away from home, if need be.

You're have a White card or you're willing to obtain one.


You're an Australian or New Zealand citizen OR an Australian Permanent Resident who possesses or is in the process of obtaining a current unrestricted NSW class 'C' drivers' licence.

You are eligible to meet the requirements to enrol for the Certificate IV in Laboratory Techniques.

You are willing and able to commit to a work/life and study balance for 2 years whilst completing on-the-job training.

You are also able to commit to commencing your studies and full-time employment in February 2024.
