Principal Policy Advisor

The Principal Policy Advisor will lead a small team, as well as have responsibility for delivering individual outcomes. They will lead research and analysis on complex and multifaceted issues that impact all Queenslanders. They will lead policy and legislative reforms relating to Queensland's driver licensing and vehicle registration frameworks.

This includes but is not limited to the driver licensing policy, sanctions and penalties, personal information and identity management, road access, road user charging and new laws for automated vehicles.


Accountabilities include:

  • Define and analyse complex policy and legislative problems and develop solutions that consider a variety of perspectives.
  • Identify and pursue policy and legislative opportunities, including in new or emerging fields where evidence and research is limited.
  • Autonomously manage a program of policy and legislation work, establishing timeframes and frameworks for implementation, and delivering initiatives in a timely and professional manner.
  • Manage and coordinate the resources of project teams to ensure that business outcomes, performance indicators, project deliverables and deadlines are achieved.
  • Develops staff by setting clear expectations, providing constructive feedback and encouraging learning to drive continuous improvement within the team.
  • Contribute proactively to the broader team as a senior team member, taking personal responsibility for delivery of your work program.
  • Write and review a range of highquality documents.
  • Develop and maintain effective and diverse networks, build professional relationships, and negotiate with stakeholders to drive policy outcomes.
  • Work collaboratively and utilise the expertise and skills of others to develop policy and legislative solutions.
  • Provide specialist advice to Managers, Directors and Executives, and key stakeholders relating to legislation and policy frameworks administered by the LTSR Branch.
  • Understand broader strategic drivers, align their work accordingly, and positively convey strategic context to peers and subordinates.
These positions report to Managers within the Licensing, Automated Vehicles and Registration Team.
