Job Summary

The State of Queensland is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Policy Advisor to join our team. As a Senior Policy Advisor, you will play a critical role in contributing to the delivery of a complex portfolio as a clear and compelling communicator, who can build strong, trust-based relationships and translate complex science into strategic policy positions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the knowledge brokering of climate science by working with the climate science team and stakeholders across government and key industry sectors to help deliver the department's climate policy responsibilities.
  • Deliver specific projects and analysis as required, ranging from strategic policy through to supporting governance arrangements, reporting, and program design and delivery.
  • Lead multi-agency, multi-disciplinary projects and collaborations focused on the application and use of climate change projection data, and information to support climate adaptation across government agencies and various external stakeholders.
  • Provide strategic advice and knowledge translation to senior management, community, industry stakeholders and other agencies' officers about the Government's climate policy, governance, priorities and programs.
  • Build productive relationships, and coordinate high level consultations and briefings, with a broad range of key stakeholders in industry, government, community and research institutions to support delivery of policy and programs that address the causes of climate change.
  • Build and maintain strong partnerships across government agencies and industry sectors in Queensland and represent the government when engaging with a broad range of stakeholders within and external to state government.
  • Foster a workplace culture that supports and promotes the interests of First Nations people and actively engage through our work to contribute to better outcomes for First Nations people.

Requirements

  • Relevant qualifications and experience in policy development, climate change, and governance.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of climate change policy and governance.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines.
