The role


The Principal Generative Geologist will play a lead role in developing exploration strategies for MinRes, with a focus on growth and development of the company's lithium and iron ore assets.

Working closely with the Exploration Projects Manager they will be responsible for prioritising and ranking targets based on technical and strategic criteria.

They will advise on and oversee exploration programs, interpret and evaluate exploration results, and make recommendations for further exploration or resource delineation.


The role involves identifying new exploration targets, participating in due diligence studies, overseeing the work of specialists in structural mapping and tenement reporting, ensuring exploration programs meet technical and budgetary requirements, and promoting a culture of continuous improvement, safe and respectful behaviours, sustainability, and environmental responsibility.


Key deliverables:

  • Play a lead role in developing exploration strategies to identify new targets for lithium, iron ore and other metals.
  • Maintain a high level of technical and professional expertise in the exploration of these minerals, keeping uptodate with new exploration techniques, technologies, and industry developments.
  • Rank exploration targets based on geological, geophysical, geochemical, and other data.
  • Collaborate with exploration and resource development teams in regards to design and execution of drilling programs.
  • Oversee field work, including mapping, sampling, and drilling, as required.
  • Provide technical support to Principal Geologists responsible for regional portfolios.
  • Oversee the work of project generation geologists to ensure that exploration targets for these minerals are aligned with the company's overall exploration strategy and tenement holdings.
  • Ensure project generation work programs meet technical and budgetary requirements.
  • Manage the work of specialists in structural mapping and tenement reporting.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement and knowledgesharing within the exploration team.
  • Build and maintain relationships with stakeholders, including government agencies, landowners, and local communities.
  • Promote a culture of safe and respectful behaviours, sustainability, and environmental responsibility.
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive understanding of the geology of target areas for these minerals, including geological controls on mineralization, alteration patterns, and structural controls.
  • Build geological models to guide exploration efforts.
  • Prepare and deliver technical reports and presentations summarising exploration activities including exploration plans, progress reports, and final reports

What you'll bring to the team:

  • BSc (Geology) at a minimum, MSc or PhD in a related field would be highly regarded.
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in mineral exploration, with exposure to lithium and/or iron ore exploration.
  • Proven track record of exploration success, including the discovery of economic mineral deposits
  • Experience in generative exploration, including target identification and evaluation
  • Strong technical skills, including experience with geological modelling software such as Leapfrog, Micromine or Vulcan
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety, sustainability, and environmental responsibility.
  • Indepth knowledge of geology, geophysics, geochemistry, and exploration techniques
  • Strong analytical and problemsolving skills, with the ability to review and analyze complex exploration data
