Main purpose of job:

You will be joining our Australia Network at an exciting time.

Australia has long been one of our closest partners, and we are stepping up collaboration further in support of the UK's Indo-Pacific Tilt.

It is also an exciting time to join the Economic Diplomacy team, following the signing of the UK-Australia Free Trade Agreement and the conclusion of negotiations on the UK's accession to the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP).


To support the High Commission's economic and trade policy objectives in Australia by assisting logistics for the team, and developing and overseeing trade and economic related project delivery.


Roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve?:

  • Working with the Economic Diplomacy team to deliver on the UK's trade policy and economic objectives in Australia.
  • Working with members of the Economic Diplomacy team, carry out proactive and reactive research in support of economic and trade policy goals for HMG customers that help fill gaps in wider analysis.
  • Help design, deliver, monitor and evaluate projects that support the UK's economic and trade policy objectives including the implementation of the UK-Australia Free Trade Agreement.
  • Coordinate work within the Economic Diplomacy team and with the Australia and regional networks on analysing and progressing action to resolve trade barriers facing UK firms, including maintaining the Digital Market Access Service database.
  • Working with other members of the High Commission and external stakeholders, coordinate the logistics and administrative arrangements for trade policy events and visits.
  • Working with the Trade Communications team, ensure that internal and external messages relating to projects and other work are clearly delivered.
  • Working with the team identify future trends and issues that will require a economic or trade policy response.
Supporting economic and trade policy events and visits.

  • Support the Economic Diplomacy and other High Commission teams in other reactive events.
Essential qualifications, skills and experience

  • Prior experience of project management
  • A good grasp of trade policy
  • A good understanding of the Australian economy.

This role advertised is a Full-Time, Permanent role.
Salary is at AU$ 80,507 per annum (paid out monthly), plus 11% superannuation.
