  • The Natural Resources Access Regulator (NRAR) enforces the NSW water laws and offers guidance and education to help water users comply. Working with NRAR provides a chance to make sure water is used lawfully so that all communities and the environment get a fair share._


The Natural Resources Access Regulator (NRAR) is seeking an Investigator (natural resources) to undertake compliance and investigation activities relating to alleged breaches of water law.

This will include investigating unlawful water take from rivers and groundwater, and the construction of unlawful dams and flood levees.


About the role


As an investigator, you will use specialised water management databases, geographic information (mapping) systems, satellite imagery analysis, field inspections and interviews to investigate and resolve breaches of water laws that impact on other water users or the environment.

Your approach to investigations will be proportionate to the seriousness of alleged offences. You will provide compliance advice to landholders for lower priority cases.

Where the impacts of breaches are significant, you may issue stop work orders or directions to remove any unlawful works and restore any impacted rivers.

For more serious breaches, you may issue penalty notices, prepare a brief of evidence for a prosecution or negotiate an enforceable undertaking.

You will engage with a range of key stakeholders, including community members, landholders, industry, local government and State Government agencies.

Previous natural resources, environmental or development compliance or investigations experience would be an advantage for this role.

  • A recruitment pool may be created for ongoing and temporary Investigator positions that may become available over the next 18 months, potentially including vacancies at these and other NRAR offices, such as Tamworth, Dubbo and Yanco._

About You
Key factors that will determine your success in this position include:

  • Tertiary qualifications (or equivalent) in one or more relevant fields such as natural resource management, science, law or forensics, or equivalent experience.

_ Please note this role will require travel to a range of NSW locations to engage with stakeholders and to complete field inspections, therefore a current and valid NSW Drivers Licence is imperative. This travel can involve overnight stays away from home and on occasion may include a number of nights._
