Role:

The integration of Information and Communication Technologies to support learning is a strategic priority of Glen Waverley Secondary College. This requires ongoing planning, implementation, maintenance and innovation of a sophisticated and complex computer network and infrastructure.


The School Strategic Plan and Annual Implementation Plan describe in detail the goals and priorities of the College and the work in which all staff are involved.

The College eLearning Plan and ICT Network and Infrastructure Roadmap also articulate key goals and priorities. The IT Manager plays a key role in ensuring that relevant goals and priorities are identified and achieved.


The Glen Waverley IT Manager's role is to manage the IT department, its staff and all facets of hardware and software whilst supporting users from within the College as well as the wider school community to ensure that the ICT infrastructure and processes support the schools expected educational and operational outcomes in a seamless manner.

It is expected that the IT Manager demonstrates proficiency in:

  • Managing the IT Team, demonstrating leadership, leading by example and creating an environment that is safe, friendly and conducive to performance.
  • Being aware of who the major stakeholders of the College are, the Vision and Values of the College, staff and student requirements and interact with committees and working groups as required.
  • Working to ensure that all equipment and software is functioning within required specifications, pre empts and solves potential problems, monitors and plans for future upgrades and maintains budgetary requirements.
  • Developing, establishing and reviewing procedures and policy for the IT department to ensure systems are maintained and users are supported in a professional, prompt and friendly manner in accordance with the College ICT Service Charter. These procedures and policies, along with technical information are to be documented and updated.
  • Liaising and communicating with external suppliers, contractors and consultants in relation to the College network and infrastructure

Responsibilities:

The IT Manager will be expected to:

  • Ensure the College computer network and infrastructure is maintained and functional at all times. This will include appropriate documentation of network structures, specifications and processes
  • Undertake ongoing professional learning in relation to ICT developments and innovation
  • Continually review the ICT support structures in order to maximise the efficiency of achieving targeted priorities
  • Provide advice to the College leadership and other school members on the state of systems and appropriate forward planning
  • Develop and review clearly articulated roles, work priorities and processes
  • Synthesise the priorities and work of the IT Network, Infrastructure, systems and equipment and Customer Service Team and the Technology Support Team in order to provide high levels of service and enabling optimal student outcomes through the use of ICT.
  • Work closely with the AV department.
  • Develop a shared and articulated vision for the network and infrastructure
  • Develop a strategic plan for the IT Network, Infrastructure, systems and equipment which includes DET priorities and requirements such as the ICT Infrastructure Roadmap
  • Develop and achieve key performance indicators for the ICT network and infrastructure
  • Appraise the performance of the IT support staff and support them to reflect on, and continually improve, their level of service delivery. This includes
