SC 1 Highly developed and experienced career counselling and pathways knowledge in relation to career options.

SC 2 High level communication and interpersonal skills when relating to students, parents, and leading staff and other members of the wider community.

SC 3 Highly developed organisation, planning, leadership, negotiation skills and leading and managing a budget.

SC 4 Demonstrated ability to work independently and lead the careers education team.

SC 5 Tertiary qualifications in Career Development and/or Career Counselling or equivalent experience.

SC 6 Strong experience with computer based resources, assessments and tools, especially relating to students careers programs.

Role:

Five days a week, school hours, 30.4 hours a week, negotiable to accomodate work outside school terms.

Objectives will, generally, be clearly defined; guidelines will be broad and day-to-day direction mínimal. Management responsibility extends to ensuring appropriate support levels are maintained across the school.

Range 4 generally provides key support and timely advice to the leadership team and school council and liaises with the general school community, the Department and other government agencies and service providers.


Specialised professional roles will carry a high level of independence and accountability where suitable scope is provided to achieve objectives.


An education support class position supports the educational services being provided to students, but must not include duties of teaching as defined in clause 2.6.1 of the Education and Training Reform Act 2006 (Vic) or its successor.

Supervision of students cannot be required except where it is an integral part of the employee¿s position or involves supervision of students individually or in small groups, in controlled circumstances, where the responsibility for students remains clearly with a teacher.

Lead the careers education team that provides appropriate careers counselling to students and families at the College.

Lead the team to esnure:
Provide appropriate one on one careers counselling to students and/or their parents as required in relation to:

  • course selections
- post compulsory education
- opportunities for employment

  • Facilitate use of electronic inventory data bases to assist students in identifying interests, strengths and weaknesses in order to assist in identifying potential careers
  • Speak at assemblies and parent information nights to ensure students and parents are informed in relation to careers and tertiary study options
  • Ensure there are opportunities for students and parents to learn about issues related to the current work environment, the range of skills students will need to engage in that environment, and the further study necessary.
  • Liaise with outside organisations (e.g. LLEN) regarding careers counselling to improve Wantirna College student opportunities
  • Coordinate the Career action pan and MyCareer Portfolios for all students
Manage and administer a library of current and up to date resources in relation to Careers information

Source accurate and up to date, University, TAFE and careers reference material and ensure it is easily accessible to students

Review materials in the Careers Centre regularly to ensure their accuracy

Lead the careers education a team that implements the work experience/work shadowing programs


Organise and facilitate the work experience, work placement and work shadowing programs to maximise student participation and further develop the support of parents and employers in collaboration with leaders.

Ensure that students have undertaken the required Worksafe training prior to their placements

Ensure all appropriate documentation is completed for students undertaking work programs and records are stored appropriately

Assist the Leading Teachers as required

Manage the human, financial, and teaching resources of the program

Ensure staff, students and parents are aware of developments and progress in relation to careers through use of the College communication channels

Ensure staff have access to accurate information regarding post compulsory education and the work force

Manage and oversee the program budget related to Careers.

Manage records of careers counselling including updating individual pathway plans
