The People team support the ANAO in the delivery of both operational and strategic priorities spanning the entire employment lifecycle which includes attraction, development, retention and offboarding/separation.

Reporting to the Director, HR Advisory in the ANAO People team, the Work Health and Safety (WHS), Wellbeing and Diversity Manager delivers the ANAO's WHS, wellbeing and diversity responsibilities and strategic priorities.

The ANAO is committed to making sure the health, safety, and wellbeing of our employees by doing everything reasonably practicable to eliminate and prevent risks that cause physical and psychological harm.

This is a unique position that supports our employees through harm minimisation that also includes the benefits of implementing diversity, inclusion and belonging strategies that aid in the promotion of a healthy workplace.

In this role, under limited supervision, you will:

  • Develop, implement and maintain WHS policies, procedures and programs in line with legislative requirements.
  • Conduct risk assessments and implement controls to mitigate WHS risks, including investigating incidents and 'near misses' and recommending corrective actions.
  • Develop and implement learning and promotional initiatives to raise awareness of WHS matters and promote staff health and wellbeing.
  • Provide support and guidance to employees and relevant stakeholders on mental health, wellbeing, diversity and inclusion matters.
  • Manage employee assistance programs (EAP), including managing the relationship with ANAO's external EAP provider.
  • Develop and implement diversity and inclusion strategies and frameworks.
  • Maintain and create effective records and reports.
  • Promote and support a culture of respect and belonging for all ANAO employees.
Who we are looking for The successful candidate will have the following experience and attributes:

  • Demonstrated experience in WHS management and associated legislation, including rehabilitation case management in line with Comcare requirements.
  • Understanding of the Safety, Rehabilitation and Compensation Act 1988
  • Demonstrated analytical skills, sound judgement and the ability to relay complex information to time-poor, stakeholders outside of HR.
  • Demonstrated ability to advise on complex HR issues, interpreting relevant legislation, policies and procedures to achieve a positive outcome for the ANAO and its employees.
  • Demonstrated experience in handling sensitive HR cases, using discretion and judgement to support employees, while taking care of themselves and having strong personal resilience.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing WHS, wellbeing and diversity in the workplace.
  • Ability to work to a high standard independently, self-motivated to provide the best possible service to others.
  • Commitment to learning, reflecting and testing new ideas and concepts in their work.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal, liaison and representational skills with the ability to establish and maintain relationships. There are no mandatory qualifications for this role, however, the following qualifications are highly
  • Relevant qualifications in Human Resources and/or Occupational Health and Safety, and/or equivalent professional certifications through the Australian Human Resources Institute (AHRI). Security Clearance – The Australian community requires the highest level of integrity from ANAO employees.
