Scientific Officer Grade 1/2, salary relative to experience and ranges from $70,694 to $109,194 + super


As Australia's oldest scientific institution, Botanic Gardens of Sydney are custodians of more than $1.2 billion in state significant cultural, heritage and botanical collections.


Our passionate and dedicated ReCER team is seeking a Scientific Officer, Biocultural Plant Dynamics Research to conduct independent, innovative and original research on the impact of First Nations cultural practices on the evolution and ecology of native flora.

The role will rely on multidisciplinary biodiversity knowledge sharing to effectively support management and conservation efforts, objectives and outcomes.

About you

Key knowledge and experience

  • Demonstrated ability to analyse and interpret complex data, with particular focus on coalescence and environmental modelling.
  • Experience in cross cultural scientific collaborations.
  • Experience in field collecting and data management for biodiversity research.
  • Experience with a range of software for the analysis and integration of genomic and environmental datasets.
  • Proven ability to prepare scientific publications and to present research to wide audiences.

Essential requirements

  • PhD in Biological Sciences and experience in the latest evolutionary ecology techniques.
  • Current driver's license.
