Purpose of the Position


Provide clinical management and treatment of patients under your care in a Northern Sydney Local Health District (NSLHD) facility or service.

This care will be provided within the scope of practice endorsed by the NSLHD Medical and Dental Appointments Advisory Committee (MDAAC).

This role will provide clinical consultation services within NSLHD and will contribute to the teaching and training of medical students, graduates and other health care professionals and to research, evaluation and quality improvement activities within the District.

This position is responsible for providing weekend on-call service in ensuring:

  • onsite review of patients admitted under the HITH Staff Specialist (both existing and new referrals) on Saturday and Sunday. Clinic sessions will be conducted in the mornings for up to 3-4 hours or as required to meet the clinical review of the patients
- first on call and medical responsibility for patients admitted under HITH Staff Specialist. In practice the weekend VMO should receive a hand over of these patients on a Friday PM
- second on call (as backup) for all other patients on the HITH service where the admitting AMO is not contactable.

  • This position is temporary with the possibility of temporary extension based on performance, funding and need_

Selection Criteria

  • MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia. Applicants must have Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) or Fellowship of the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine (FACEM) or Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (FRACGP) or recognition as a specialist by the Medical Board of Australia

  • Demonstrated ability to comply with the service objectives of public health organisations, including the provision of services to local community, effective utilisation of resources, preparedness to participate in provision of health services at Area level, if credentialed
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuing selfeducation and development, including evidence of participation in continuing medical education/continuing professional development and service development and evidence of and commitment to quality improvement methodologies
  • High level interpersonal and communication skills and experience/involvement in quality assurance activities and evidencebased best practice
  • Current NSW Drivers license
