NSLHD is looking for registered Specialists in Cardiology, Respiratory Medicine, Rehabilitation Medicine, Immunology and Allergy, or Neurology to work as Long COVID Service Consultants to provide consultation, assessment and evidence-based interventions to those experiencing prolonged symptoms or chronic complaints following COVID-19 infection within the NSLHD model of care.

Positions can be negotiated as either Staff Specialist or Visiting Medical Officer, for a temporary basis.

Purpose of the Position


The position will provide clinical consultation services within NSLHD Long COVID Model of Care and will contribute to the multidisciplinary care of patients with Long COVID.

The position will involve evaluation of this new service and patient related outcome.

The VMO or Staff Specialist will provide support for patients to receive integrated and coordinated care for the management of Long COVID.

They will be required to fulfill the multi-disciplinary specialised care approach as recommended by the Agency for Clinical Innovation (ACI) Long COVID model of care guiding document.

The position will facilitate the expansion of the existing GP COVID Advice Line to support long COVID patients and their GPs as recommended by the ACI's guidance.

This model will be delivered primarily via Virtual Care Service. Scope for in-person review can be organised based on the patient's presentation and specialist availability. Actual location of the service delivery is flexible.

Long COVID Model of Care is contained within the Virtual Care Service of NSLHD, based in the Douglas Building RNSH, St Leonards.

Selection Criteria

  • MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia. Applicants must have Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians or recognition as a specialist by the Medical Board of Australia
  • Consistently demonstrates behaviours that reinforce the CORE Values of our organisation; Collaboration, Openness, Respect and Empowerment. Demonstrates these behaviours with all stakeholders; colleagues, direct reports, as well as our patients and consumers, and those that care for them
  • Appropriate experience to practice as a Senior Medical Practitioner in Cardiology or Respiratory Medicine or Rehabilitation Medicine or Immunology and Allergy, or Neurology
  • Demonstrated interest in the management of Long COVID.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team and provide leadership of a team.
  • Demonstrated effective clinical communication through the use of information technology and written, verbal and interpersonal skills. Experience with virtual care delivery.
  • A strong commitment to an evidencebased service to provide for consumers, carers and families requiring assessment, case management, intervention, appropriate referral and discharge planning.

COVID-19 Vaccination Compliancy
All NSW Health workers are required to have two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine, as defined by NSW Health. Employees working in a clinical area or are required to attend clinical areas are considered category A.

Category A positions are required to provide evidence of having received three doses of COVID-19 vaccine in accordance with the Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (TGA) and meet the requirements of the Occupational Assessment Screening and Vaccination Against Specified Infectious Diseases Policy Directive.
