This placement works operationally under the management of Uniting in the Mission Directorate to execute the Synod's strategies in mission and ministry in partnership with Presbyteries, Congregations, working groups and other bodies.
The position is responsible to the Uniting NSW.ACT Director of Mission. The minister is also connected to a presbytery for pastoral oversight.The minister is accountable to the Uniting Church in Australia Code of Ethics and Ministry Practice and the Uniting Code of Conduct Policy.
The role provides prophetic leadership to ensure that the theological and spiritual identity of Uniting is grounded in the mission and ethos of the Uniting Church.
The minister is responsible for the development of strategic plans and vision with respect to Uniting Church engagement initiatives and the development of key documents that support Uniting's relationship with the Uniting Church.
Qualifications:
Essential
- Ordained as a Deacon or Minister of the Word in the Uniting Church in Australia
- Membership of the Uniting Church with sound knowledge and understanding of the Uniting Church's policy, ethos, Basis of Union, structure, systems, and processes.
- Tertiary qualifications in theology and leadership/management or equivalent.
Your experience ticks the following boxes:
- Demonstrated theological leadership in an organisational context
- Proven leadership and change management capacity at senior levels in areas related to key responsibilities including policy development, strategic and business planning, research and ethics, stakeholder management and relationship building, staff education and leadership development, team leadership and teamwork
- Significant knowledge on how the Uniting Church operates and willingness to work within its ethos
- Familiarity with relevant Government policies, Australian welfare system and community programs
- Experienced facilitator with the ability to have highlevel policy discussions around difficult and complex issues in small or large public settings
- Demonstrated capacity to maintain and promote social, ethical and organisational norms in conducting internal and external business and missional activities
- Experience in policy development, including social justice
- Passion for social change and creating an organisation of influence for the benefit of people who are most disadvantaged
- Skilled at navigating a complex organisation, forging relationships, and managing through influence rather than direct authority
- Willingness to travel across the Synod and interstate when required.
