Catalysed by a transformative innovation lead university and a future ready workforce, it will leverage a 'Circular Economy' pipeline and strong industry partnerships, to create the new jobs and businesses upon which Australia's future will be built.

The Associate Research Fellow will join a dynamic and enthusiastic research team engaged in an exciting multidisciplinary industry project. The team brings together diverse expertise from various Engineering and Science fields to collaboratively tackle the project. The project involves the development of innovative processes aimed at transforming end-of-life tyres into environmentally friendly green products.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Investigating literature on tyre recycling approaches
  • Developing mechanical model for tyre recycling plant and subsystems, translating to virtualrealityready model
  • Conducting sample and data collection
  • Characterising samples, and analysing data
  • Validating mechanical model against physical plant
  • Devising parameters of whole plant and optimising them
  • Investigating tyre reduction output, and developing mechanical subsystem interfaces
  • Developing reports, safety plans, and procedures

Key selection criteria for this role:

  • A Ph.
D. degree in Mechanical Engineering

  • Ability to design and optimise mechanical systems and equipment such as shredders, grinders, classifiers, and conveyors
  • Proficiency in CAD software for 3D modelling and mechanical design, and simulation tools such as SolidWorks, ANSYS, or similar software
  • Understanding of material handling principles and equipment selection for efficient and safe handling.
  • Expertise in experimental design, data capture, data analysis, and interpretation of experimental results related to mechanical processes and material properties
  • Knowledge of mechanical and materials characterisation techniques and equipment
  • Knowledge of health and safety practices and regulations, environmental considerations and standards and compliance related to chemical processes, ability in developing safety plans and procedures to minimise risks
  • Familiarity with mechanical processes and technologies involved in recycling industry, potentially waste tyre recycling _*desirable_
  • Experience with factoryscale experiments, pilotscale studies, and industrial trials _*desirable_
  • Understanding of sustainable practices and environmental impact assessment _*desirable_
  • Experience in conducting risk assessments and implementing risk mitigation strategies related to mechanical engineering processes _*desirable_
  • Familiarity with visualisation and virtual reality software tools and equipment _*desirable_
