The Centre for Regional and Rural Futures is recruiting a research fellow to join its knowledge brokering team as part of the Victorian Drought Resilience Adoption and Innovation Hub.


The Victorian Drought Resilience Adoption and Innovation Hub is funded by the Commonwealth Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry via the Future Drought Fund Initiative.

Within the Hub, Deakin University lead the Knowledge Broker function, developing relationships within the Hub, between researchers and Hub stakeholders and among Hubs across Australia.

Hub stakeholders include farming systems groups, food and fibre councils, universities and government agencies.

This is an outcome-focussed position that aims to achieve real change in Australia's regions.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Stakeholder engagement
  • Developing and contributing to strategic and activity planning
  • Project and event management
  • Strategic communications
  • Evaluating and monitoring of activities
  • Qualitative document analysis and synthesis
  • Social media /media (especially for the purposes of developing narrative for community/network building and knowledge sharing purposes)
  • Contributing to a vibrant research team, including participating with colleagues in developing and maintaining links and partnerships with industry and the wider community
  • Supervising or examining honours students, or making a contribution to the supervision, management and timely completion of HDR students
  • Contributing to building an active national research record, prepare findings for oral and written communication including publications and the generation of external research income
  • Developing an early career research plan
  • Contributing to the Deakin community and its effectiveness via local engagement and citizenship activities
  • Understanding the objectives and outcomes to be delivered by the University's strategic agenda
  • Contributing to community beyond Deakin via engagement activities
  • Supporting Deakin community engagement plan

Key selection criteria for this role:
Qualifications and experience

  • A Bachelor's degree, with a preference for Honorslevel completion in a communicationsrelated discipline
  • A minimum fivetoseven years' experience working in a communications field or related area of professional practice
  • Demonstrated success engaging in highlevel communication practice with ability to synthesis complex information
  • Evidence of working with a wide variety of individuals and groups, recognising diversity of interests to improve information flow
  • Stakeholder engagement
experience, especially the ability to conduct interviews, focus groups and/or engage in survey design

  • Research experience or experience in the translation and communication of research findings.
  • Project and event management
capabilities

  • Superior written and verbal skills with a preference for social media and/or podcasting experience.
  • Demonstrated organisational skills including the ability to demonstrate scientific rigour and maintain a high stand of record keeping
