About the Role


With accelerated growth of Renewable Energy projects, the Grid Connection Manager plays a critical role in coordinating the complex technical and regulatory matters associated with a grid connection, facilitation of power system studies, providing project management and stakeholder engagement that expedites grid connections and confidence in Iberdrola Australia projects.


Specific responsibilities include:

  • Manage grid connection work stream by developing connections strategies and project plans for all generator performance and compliance related matters including GPS negotiation, connection agreements, budget preparations etc.
  • Lead and coordinate Generator Performance Standards negotiation alliance team (Iberdrola, OEM, Consultants, NSP and AEMO) for projects and ensure there is a clear path to achieving critical milestones without delays to the agreed schedule.
  • Establish, engage and maintain strong working relationships across all stakeholder groups both internal and external.
  • Lead submissions into rule change proposals related to grid connection activities
  • Support due diligence process for project acquisition opportunities.
  • Manage compliance related matters for operational assets, coordinating modelling work where required, to assist the operations team in resolving issues.
  • Evaluation of the commercial and technical viability of potential and existing renewable generation sites with respect to connection to grid.
  • Work closely with Development and Construction/Design teams to ensure electrical plant models accurately reflect the plant design and that any issues are identified early.
  • Ensure grid connections are achieved in alignment with business risk register and are energised on time, to quality and performance standards
  • Supervise OEM/EPC contractors commissioning tests during the whole construction phase, including registration, R2 validation up to final COD.
  • Evaluate suggested control solutions/ SCADA design settings to achieve the optimal operational strategy required by Iberdrola, within the GPS limits.


Based in Sydney, Brisbane or Melbourne (with some travel as required to the respective Iberdrola sites) this role offers the opportunity to join one of the world's leading brands within the energy sector, with a significant pipeline of work ahead.


About You


In order to be successful in this role, you will have significant previous experience in grid connections and power systems analysis in the Australian Energy sector.

With strong communication, negotiation and stakeholder management skills, you will have:

  • 7+ years' experience in either the power generation, transmission or distribution industries
  • Ability to work proactively both autonomously and within a team.
  • Strong communication skills, with an ability to work collaboratively, and experience working with, stakeholders including OEM's, NSP's and AEMO.
  • Ability to operate at a detailed level, to organise and multitask, with a dedication to seeing projects through to completion.
  • Excellent technical report writing capability and experience, including development of technical recommendations and ability to effectively communicate complex engineering concepts.
  • Good understanding of the National Electricity Rules.
Tertiary qualifications in Electrical/Power Systems Engineering are essential for this position.
