Transgrid's Network Connection team is responsible for facilitating new generator connections to NSW and ACT transmission system by undertaking technical assessment and due diligence of proposed connections to the Transgrid network from the Connection Application stage through to Registration and Commissioning.

The Opportunity

We are hiring for an Engineer in the Network Connections team. The Engineer position is responsible for performing technical assessment, network modelling, and analysis within the network connections team. The successful candidate is required to have 1-2 years of relevant industry experience and will be expected to undertake technical assessment of generator performance standards, generator commissioning, high voltage transmission system developments and network connections for Transgrid and third-party customers. Working across the Network business unit, the Engineer will author or review robust technical reports, develop network models, and contribute to development of efficient power systems analysis and connection processes.

In this role, the Engineer:

Performs due diligence studies for generator/load connections applications, including generator compliance assessments, performance standards, and commissioning. Contributes to investigation of wide area system issues that impact the connections of new and existing generators. Participates in review of generator connection processes, policies, and guidelines to achieve improved team performance. Contributes to forming advice and recommendations on various technical enquiries and analysis. Authors concise and clear reports and provides presentations to stakeholders. Develops and maintains automation frameworks required for technical assessments. Provides delivery of timely, high-quality service to internal and external customers. Provides management timely and accurate briefings. Knowledge on conducting harmonic assessment and analysing the results would be an advantage. Takes initiative in continuous improvement. Supports organisational objectives around engagement and culture change. Demonstrates high performance and collaborative behaviours in a highly matrixed organisation. Practices collaborative behaviours to ensure stakeholder requirements are included. Work and operate in a manner which supports the Health and Safety outcomes of our people and our business. Skills & Experience

What we expect from you:

Tertiary qualifications at degree level in an appropriate discipline, or equivalent relevant experience 1-2 years experience in NER compliance assessment and development of electricity transmission systems models. Proficiency in PSSE or PSCAD software platforms would be required. Familiarity with PowerFactory would be advantage. Deep understanding of Electrical Engineering principles, NER, GPS and associate technical assessments (e.g. generator protection, SCADA, and experience in generation, transmission or similar role). Effective communication with a range of persons including customers, suppliers, contractors, other technical experts and senior engineers (written and verbal) Developed people and service management skills Excellent written communications skills for persuasive reports and submissions Developed analytical, conceptual, and problem-solving skills Skills and performance in participating in change management. Knowledge of various computer systems and quality assurance procedures Knowledge of the energy industry Understanding of quality assurance principles and experience with working in accordance with a Quality Assurance System knowledge of the National Electricity Market and its impact on operations of the NSW HV network and Transgrid's business. Hands-on skills in Python scripting and automated studies are required.
