The role

You will be accountable to:

Guide investigative teams in the development of investigation strategy, identifying the relevant legal issues, planning and conducting the investigations. Identify issues including complex legal issues arising in investigations. Interview and obtain information from a range of witnesses. Provide advice and guidance to investigators and external resources regarding required witness evidence. Conduct compulsory s.19 ASIC Act examinations or assist investigation staff or external resources prepare for s.19 Examinations. Communicate with external parties in relation to issues arising during the course of the investigation. Consider whether expert evidence will be required for legal proceedings and assist to identify appropriately qualified experts. Devise case theory for potential litigation. Work with ASIC's Legal Services team, external solicitors and barristers to obtain supporting evidence and develop case pleadings. Provide written and oral briefings to Senior Executives, Executive Directors and Commissioners, and Coach and mentor less experienced staff.

Please note that roles are available at either EL2 and EL1 classifications.

EL1 – from $118, % superannuation: lawyers with 5-6 years post admission experience, with a strong focus on civil litigation EL2 – from $141, % superannuation: lawyers with 7-10 years post admission experience, with a strong focus on civil litigation

You will be asked to indicate the classification that you wish to apply for.

About you

You must have: a Bachelor's Degree in Law, admission to the Supreme Court of an Australian State or Territory as a solicitor or barrister and must hold (or be eligible) a current legal practicing certificate from the relevant State law society; significant experience conducting civil litigation; strong legislative and evidence analysis skills; significant experience involving investigation, case management, evidence gathering, project management and detection of misconduct; Highly developed writing and drafting skills and the ability to communicate in a clear, concise and persuasive manner; Confidence presenting, building rapport, interviewing, and advocating an organisation's position in the context of complex issues; and Experience in guiding and coaching other team members.
