Whitsunday Sailing Outrigger is seeking a Watersports Instructor (outrigger canoe sailing and paddling)

Business and Product:

Whitsunday Sailing Outrigger is a family-run business, located in the heart of Whitsundays (Airlie Beach) at The Lagoon Beach Broadwater Ave Qld 4802- offering unique experience of outrigger sailing /paddling . Outrigger Canoeing is a racing sport of the canoeing discipline in which canoes with lateral floats called outriggers fastened to the hull is used for racing. The sport is very popular in the Hawaiian Islands. Whitsunday Sailing Outrigger offers a sailing outrigger canoe which is a combination of paddling and sailing.

Salary - annual salary $73200 plus superannuation

Full time contract 38h/week

Position: Watersports Instructor (outrigger canoe sailing and paddling)

As a Watersports Instructor you will be responsible to the business owners.

Your main roles will include:

Delivering high quality, safe and consistent tours in the sailing outrigger canoe

Supervision of participant’s and developing their skills as an outrigger paddler

Ensuring all customers have an enjoyable experience

Being an active role model within the Whitsunday Sailing Outrigger business and promoting the local environment

Assist in sales and promotion of the product

Specifically you will have to (not limited to)

  • Plan a outrigger session.
  • Select and organize equipment and resources
  • Brief participants- Welcome participants and take payment from individuals or group.
  • Demonstrate the use of paddles and safety equipment. (lifejackets), GoPro instructions
  • Instruct on how to use the sails and paddle an outriggers.
  • Complete post session responsibilities- including download GoPro footage and upload for transfer, enter participants details in to data base

Skills and Abilities

Advanced water sport knowledge and experience

Skills in use of Marine VHF

Outrigger canoe paddling and steering teaching skills, setting and adjusting sails up to weather conditions

Ability to read weather identify possibility of dangerous weather events and monitor Bureau of Meteorology marine forecast on regular basis

Navigation by dead reckoning knowledge and teaching skills

Ability to assess participants progress and provide feedback

Qualifications:

Cert 4 in Sport, Aquatics and Recreation or Cert 4 Training and Assessment

3 years of experience in water sports activities leadership and/or instructing might substitute for formal training.

One year of relevant experience in water sports leadership , instructing or teaching is a must .

Only fully qualified and experienced applicants will be considered.
