  • Provide care to our patients from admission through to discharge

About the Role:
As an Emergency and Critical Care Nurse your responsibilities are as below, but not limited to; 

  • Undertake routine veterinary nursing duties as directed by the senior nurse
  • Admission and discharge of patients according to policy/as directed
  • Follow triage process according to protocol, including a full TPR on each patient presented to emergency
  • Assess and respond appropriately to determine the priority of patients’ treatment based on the severity of their condition
  • Communicate with the veterinarians, nurses and owner about each triaged patient as per the triage protocol
  • Monitor and record patient status, whilst undergoing pre-medication, anaesthesia, surgery and recovery as per policy and procedure/as directed
  • Chart all patients as per attending veterinarian requirements and SASH protocol
  • Be responsible for adequately handing over patients to other departments and team members

About You:
We are looking for a passionate ECC Nurse who can work independently with a reliable, adaptable and proactive approach to your work. We are looking for a nurse with the following skills:

  • A keen interest in emergency and a desire to work closely with our patients throughout their entire SASH journey
  • An ability to manage and prioritise tasks effectively
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience in general anaesthesia & ventilation is desirable but not essential. A training program will be developed for the right person to support their ongoing learning and development
  • Confidence working in an extremely busy environment

To be considered for this position, applicants must have:

  • Completed a Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing
  • A minimum of 2 years, full-time experience as a qualified nurse
  • Previous experience in emergency nursing would be highly regarded but is not essential
  • Available to work overnights and weekends on rotation
