The Role
As a Theatre Nurse (Perioperative Nurse), you will play a crucial role in the surgical team, providing high-quality patient care before, during, and after surgical procedures. You will collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologist, and other healthcare professionals to ensure safe and effective patient outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in preparing operating rooms for surgical procedures, ensuring all equipment and supplies are sterile and ready for use.
- Provide compassionate pre-operative care to patients, addressing their concerns and ensuring their comfort.
- Monitor patients throughout surgical procedures, anticipating and responding to their needs and assisting the surgical team as required.
- Administer medications and anaesthesia under the supervision of an anesthesiologist.
- Maintain accurate medical records and documentation of patient care activities.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement individualized care plans for patients.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and adhere to infection control protocols to ensure patient safety.
The Essentials
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or equivalent degree from an accredited institution.
- Current registration as a Registered Nurse (RN) with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in perioperative nursing, preferably in a hospital setting.
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) and Basic Life Support (BLS) certifications.
- Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and collaborate as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Commitment to continuous professional development and evidence-based practice.
- Certification in perioperative nursing highly desirable.
