About the role

Due to an internal movement there is an ongoing opportunity now available for a Trade Waste Compliance officer to comprehensively administer the safe acceptance of trade waste to ensure customer, environmental and business objectives are met.

The team manage the acceptance, monitoring and auditing of waste arising from Trade Waste customer sites across the state. They ensure that restricted waste discharges to the wastewater network are controlled to minimise the impact on treatment assets while also helping to manage and optimise the wastewater network performance to meet with regulatory requirements and our customer’s expectations.

Some key attributes for success will be an ability to:

  • Forge sustainable relationships with our customers
  • Ensure all safety and environmental compliance's are maintained
  • Provide outstanding customer service and deliver subject matter expertise to customer enquiries  
  • Identify and facilitate resolution of non-compliance trade waste discharge issues
  • Develop and issue new trade waste authorisations
  • Investigate and help resolve environmental incidents

About You:

As an effective multitasker you will hold great communication skills both written and verbal. Experience in negotiating with major industries to achieve positive outcomes, whilst taking into consideration environmental impacts on the industry will be highly advantageous.

Key requirements of the role include:

  • Technical qualification or equivalent in relevant technical discipline e.g., chemistry, environmental, plumbing and drainage
  • Knowledge of processes generating trade waste and the appropriate methods for its minimisation and treatment.
  • Knowledge of wastewater sampling and testing equipment and interpretation of data / results.
  • Ability to assess design consultant proposals (i.e., drainage layouts) and have plumbing and drainage awareness relating to trade waste

A salary commencing at $ 80,696.13 + superannuation will be offered.

As SA Water provides a critical service to the SA community 24/7 and as such the successful applicant will be required to work some overtime with minimal notice and will participate in an emergency on-call after hour's roster after a qualifying period.  This position involves both planned and unplanned travel to remote areas of the state and working under limited supervision.  Occasional overnight absences away from home will be required to satisfy SA Water’s service delivery requirements.
