Why this Role Matters

The Salvation Army Australia’s Homelessness Stream provides high quality, person-centred services to people at risk, and/or experiencing homelessness. We support all cohorts in case management, outreach support, financial assistance, connection, and referral to other specialist services.

Our philosophy is that every person deserves dignity, respect, and quality of service. We believe that no one should be without a safe, affordable, and secure home. Services are free, voluntary, accredited and delivered by professional and committed staff.

We are currently seeking a Support Worker to provide support to our participants and assist them on achieving set outcomes.

The role you could play

  • Work to the direction of case management plans in assisting clients to attend appointments relating to health, housing, finances, education, justice, and social inclusion as required
  • Assist residents with a range of activities in preparing for independent living: meals preparation; life and living skills; health and hygiene; recreation and exercise
  • Ensure risks to clients, staff and TSA are identified and bought to the attention of the relevant supervisor as soon as possible 
  • Report incidents in the required format as per TSA and funding body procedures 
  • Establish effective work relationships with key staff, managers, and other stakeholders as appropriate
  • Ensure Activities are monitored and clearly communicated to relevant staff for handover 
  • Provide an immediate and appropriate response to incidents that impact on resident safety and security in accordance with site policies and procedures
  • Proactively manage grounds keeping while respecting the rights and privacy of residents and their visitors

This role is permanent full-time based in Alice Springs. Salary and conditions are in accordance with the SCHADS Level 3 Award.

Our ideal candidate will have

  • A qualification in Community Services or similar with demonstrated previous experience working in a similar position
  • Experience working with people who may not have English as a first language
  • Highly developed time management and work prioritisation skills with an ability to work autonomously with minimal supervision required
  • NT Working with Children check is required prior to commencement
  • A current NT driver’s license
  • A willingness to undergo a National Police check
