Your Opportunity

The Aherlkeme Development Centre provides transitional accommodation and support services for Territorians who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. We are dedicated to helping individuals and families who struggle to find and maintain tenancies. Our centre offers culturally safe individual support, comprehensive case management, and life skills development programs to assist residents in transitioning to stable housing in the public or private rental market.

Based in Alice Springs as a Support Worker, you will offer support to participants, perform general cleaning and admin duties, and contribute to positive tenancy outcomes for residents, following our service contract and Mission Australia values.

This is a 24 hour service, therefore applicants must be available to work evening, overnight and also weekend shifts when required.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Establish positive working relationships with clients.
  • Assist team members providing practical support to clients such as transport and continuous monitoring.
  • Support clients with basic needs, provide guidance and approach clients in a sensitive, solution focused and culturally appropriate manner.
  • Update case notes and use appropriate record keeping ensuring compliance in the program.
  • Collaborate with the team in the care and management of youth at risk.

Requirements for Success

With a background in Community Services, Homelessness and/or Mental Health sectors, you will be confident in your solution focused approach to supporting people living on site in transitional accommodation.  Other requirements include:

  • Previous experience in a similar position is highly desired.
  • Experience working with Aboriginal communities with an understanding and respect for the culture.
  • Be computer literate in Microsoft programs.
  • Be willing to work as part of a roster which includes nights and weekends.
  • Excellent analytical, literacy, numeracy, and verbal communication skill.
  • Client focused and respectful with vulnerable people who are accessing our services.
  • Experience with manual handling and the ability to lift and carry up to 15 kgs regularly and the ability to safely climb two steps on a ladder to put away stock while carrying up to 4kgs.
  • Senior First Aid Certificate or willingness to obtain is desired.
  • Full driver licence with no restrictions.

Before starting work with us, you will need to undertake a national police history check, qualifications, and referee checks, and have a clearance to work with children/vulnerable people.
