As a Senior Climate & Environment Specialist you will develop, implement and expand Telstra’s decarbonisation and carbon offsetting activities to deliver against our climate change goals and enhance our reputation as a responsible business. This will include promoting climate change to our stakeholders and supporting our organisation, subsidiaries, customers, suppliers and partners to achieve emissions reduction and offsetting aligned to our public commitments.

You will contribute to key aspects of Telstra’s environment program, including:

  • Developing plans and advising business leads to decarbonise Telstra’s across scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions.
  • Overseeing and directing Telstra’s carbon offsetting program, governance and certifications
  • Responsibility for undertaking due diligence related to carbon credit purchases
  • Managing relationships with internal and external stakeholders including related to Telstra’s decarbonisation and carbon offset program
  • Prepare Telstra for emerging risks and opportunities related to climate change including evolving and uplifting Telstra’s climate ambition
  • Supporting disclosures related to our climate change program, including transition plans
  • Applying your climate change experience and leverage your external network to deliver on Telstra’s climate change, decarbonisation and carbon offsetting commitments.
  • Providing subject matter expertise on climate change, decarbonisation, carbon offsetting and related matters more broadly to prepare Telstra against emerging trends.
  • Overseeing and execute governance processes to integrate climate change considerations into business strategy and processes including carbon pricing, short term incentives, M&A activity and others.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • A relevant degree in an environmental science discipline, with proven practical experience in a related work environment and climate change
  • Experience working on program implementation to deliver customer and business outcomes
  • Proven knowledge of carbon offsetting topics, including carbon credit markets, accreditation and other processes and public policy and corporate reputation considerations.
  • Knowledge of climate change, decarbonisation, emissions reduction and related topics more broadly.
  • Experience in operational areas, with a focus on reporting and project delivery
  • Strong relationship-building and influencing skills
  • Proven communication skills with the ability to write and communicate across a range of formats and audiences.
  • Commercial acumen, with an ability to drive carbon neutral market modelling and manage costs efficiently.
