About the Role 

Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of children and their families? This is your opportunity to be part of a brand new state wide initiative addressing the impact of Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder - FASDConnect. The FASD Service at Monash Children’s comprises pathways for children 0-3 years through the Jacana Clinic, and for children 3-10 years through VicFAS.  

We are seeking a compassionate and skilled senior Social Worker to be part of the team based at Monash Children's Hospital. In this pioneering role you will provide vital support, advocacy and intervention helping to create bright futures for those most vulnerable.

This is a two (2) year, fixed term position, working part time, 7.6 hours per fortnight. 

If successful, you'll be one of four members of a newly forming team, all working part time. 

We'll work with you to provide flexibility as far as possible, to accommodate your preferred working days and hours.

About the Monash Health Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) Service and FASDConnect 

The Monash Health Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) Service is supported by the Developmental Paediatrics team at Monash Children's Hospital. It provides specialist multidisciplinary assessments for children with pre-natal alcohol exposure, who show complex neurological, developmental, and behavioural symptoms. The service also delivers education, information and resources to communities at high risk of FASD, and provides clinical training in FASD diagnosis for paediatricians, psychologists, speech pathologists, occupational therapists and social workers.

FASDConnect is a new partnership between the Monash Health FASD Service and the Victorian Department of Health, aimed at supporting the Targeted Support for Children in Out of Home Care project.  FASDConnect aim is to: 

  • increase early identification and diagnosis of children and young people with FASD in the Out of Home Care system through education of its staff;
  • build capacity of the health system to identify, diagnose and respond to FASD; 
  • increase awareness and skills in the child protection workforce to collect and document information about prenatal alcohol exposure to support diagnosis; and
  • Intersect with the established Monash Health FASD Services. 

About You:

To be successful in this role you’ll bring the following experience and skills: 

  • Experience in identifying, diagnosing and responding to FASD 
  • Strong communication skills to collaborate with families, healthcare professionals
  • Experience working in multidisciplinary teams 
  • Experience in secondary consultation models of care 
  • Creating and delivering evidence-based education material
