About the Role
A Principal Engineer has significant professional experience, is highly technical and works across Wpay squads, ensuring good engineering practices and standards are followed.
This role works closely with Tech Leads on greenfield initiatives and initiatives to enhance existing solutions, working on feasibility discovery, prototype, and solution design and is comfortable being hands-on in a technical leadership capacity.
This role is also heavily involved in evaluating new tools and technologies and drafting strategies for continually improving engineering standards at Wpay.
What you’ll do
- Provide engineering thought leadership to peers, colleagues in product and management
- Continually identify areas for improvement in system security, observability, reliability, testability and performance. Lead by example in these domains
- Implement software modules as a squad member to develop product capability or independently when required
- Assist members of the engineering team in their tasks and provide guidance and mentorship to junior engineers
- Collaborate in cross-functional teams to design system modules that comply with and influence the overall end-to-end system design
- Review pull requests and leverage learning opportunities to further the engineering standards of all squads
- Assist in the recruitment of engineering team members, the operation of the engineering design council and agile ceremonies
What you’ll bring
- 10+ years of experience building software, with 4+ years in an architect/principal role working across teams
- Proficiency in C# and .Net Core. Experience in another object-oriented programming language is also acceptable, but you need to be willing to work with a .Net tech stack
- Proficiency in multiple declarative and scripting languages consistent with an engineer who has complex systems development experience
- Broad experience architecting, designing, and building system modules with multiple dependencies across a variety of design patterns and workload types
- Experience working on security and compliance-related features. Good understanding of cryptography and key management
- Experience with cloud technologies, Infrastructure as Code and CI/CD pipelines
- Success with building, expressing, and pitching a technical vision to stakeholders
- Good understanding of Agile & Lean delivery principles
