What's the Role:

You will provide Material testing and characterisation, and root cause analysis services in Bradken Central Material Laboratory. You will report directly to the Material Lab Engineer and enable the Central lab to increase the level of material investigation services to the business.

You will primarily involve logistical coordination, operating the sectioning and sample preparation machinery, maintaining the lab inventory and machinery, implementing ISO 9001 requirements, and maintaining NATA certifications. This includes conducting sample cutting, mounting, and polishing.

You will operate machinery such as Bandsaw, grinding machine, and other sectioning machinery, Heat Treatment furnaces, wear testing equipment, hardness testing, and chemical analysis machines. The microstructural examinations can be included depending on your skills and knowledge in this area. You will also follow regular lab housekeeping i.e., cleaning equipment, following procedures, and reporting hazards. You will assist in planning, CAPEX preparations, procurement, and installation of the new machinery and the required safety and civil preparations.

You will have good communication skills as you’ll need to provide status updates on testing and work progress, adhere to timelines, and perform basic data entry using MS Office.

You will focus on quality and compliance aspects by following work procedures, identifying areas for improvement in lab processes, and developing and maintaining Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). You will be managing quality and compliance audits of materials, properly naming and tagging samples, and writing technical reports for metallurgical assessments and quality checks are also part of your responsibilities.

As a Key Technical Criteria:

Data entry skills including basic use of MS Office and Excel Hands-on, independent operators with demonstrated training in machining and general workshop equipment are essential Knowledge and experience in Materials and metallurgical investigations are highly regarded Problem-solving Skills Demonstrated task management skills – able to multitask Good understanding of work safety requirements, procedures, and risk assessments
