    What you’ll do:

    We are seeking an experienced people manager to join our Secondary Electrical Systems business area at Entura. As their manager, you will play a pivotal role in the day-to-day management of the team that supports the successful design of secondary systems for a wide range of clients including renewables (wind, solar, hydropower, gas and batteries) and utilities.

    Reporting to the Director, Grid and Power, and leading a team of 20 you will make a significant contribution to Entura’s success. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a dynamic and engaged team that deliver high quality services across the following areas:

    • conceptual design and development of metering and protection single line diagrams
    • detailed protection scheme design for high voltage substations, generators and industrial applications
    • functional protection and control specifications
    • secondary equipment specification and procurement support
    • design of SCADA installations
    • system modelling, protection coordination studies and relay setting calculations
    • development of relay configuration files
    • design of instrumentation and revenue metering systems
    • analysis of protection system operations and performance
    • safety in design hazard identification, assessment, communication and reporting
    • owner’s engineer services including reviews of third-party designs

    What you’ll bring:

  • Principal Engineer - Dams/Civil - Melbourne, Hobart

    • 12-15 years’ experience.
    • Tertiary qualifications in civil or environmental engineering, science or hydrology as required for admission as a member of Engineers Australia or equivalent.
    • Strong experience with Australian hydrological and hydraulic practices including current design guidelines and standards.
    • Strong hydrologic modelling and flood forecasting skills using a range of standard industry software.
    • Strong programming skills (preferably in R or Python) applied to hydrology projects.
    • Advanced statistical skills related to design flood hydrology, including flood frequency approaches, and total probability methods for Monte Carlo samping on multiple reservoirs.
    • Analysis of impacts of climate change and climate variability on water availability.
    • Use of semi-distributed or lumped conceptual rainfall-runoff models (eWater Source, RORB, HEC-HMS or similar) for event based and continuous simulation.
    • Familiar with model calibration approaches for both event based and continuous simulation hydrological models.

  • Senior Structural Transmission Line Engineer - Melbourne, Hobart

    Entura is growing and so are our teams supporting an exciting pipeline of large-scale projects. We are now seeking an experienced Senior Structural Engineer specialising in Transmission Line Design.

    Key requirements of the role are as follows:

    • Tertiary qualifications in Civil, or Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent), acceptable for admission as a professional engineer to Engineers Australia, or equivalent professional body.
    • At least, Ten years (10) experience in structural (Lattice structures) design work, with a particular emphasis on transmission line and substation structural design work.
    • Strong knowledge of the following Australian Standards AS/NZS 7000, AS 4100, AS 3600, AS 3995 and AS 1170.
    • Sound experience in the use of computer design packages e.g. PLS Tower, PLS Pole;
    • Development of conductor loads for transmission and substation structures.
    • Experience in the development of conductor attachment point loads for transmission and substation structures through “Limit State” design method.
    • Experience in the analysis of lattice towers, pole and gantry structures.
    • Experience in lattice tower member connection detailing and design.
    • Experience in existing tower augmentation and strengthening works for TL upgradation projects.
    • Experience in lattice tower, pole and substation foundation designs.
    • Computer literacy with a high standard of competence in the principal components of Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Internet Explorer, and Outlook .
    • Ability to solve complex technical and operational problems, either through a systematic approach or innovation.
    • Previous experience in an engineering design consultancy environment.
    • Client and project management.

    The role is based in our Tasmanian office however flexible work arrangements are considered.  Given the diversity of our clients and projects, there may be some local, national and international travel required.

    You have experience in the following areas:

    • 7+ years’ experience.
    • Tertiary qualifications in Electrical Engineering.
    • Practical experience of 7+ years, predominantly in the space of grid connections, Generator Performance Standards (GPS) compliance assessments, power system studies.
    • Undertaken testing either on site or virtually (e.g. via Teams screenshare) desirable but not essential.
    • Ideally CPEng, RPEQ, RPEV credentials
    • Able to diagnose and trouble-shoot independently (both in software PSSE, PSCAD, Python, etc as well as technical issues, i.e. understand the underlying real world physics).
    • Modelling software experience using:
      • PSSE
      • PSCAD essential
      • Powerfactory
      • SINCAL highly desired
      • Python and Matlab highly desired

    • Experience in HV earthing design and earth performance testing.
    • High level experience in using Electromagnetic Transient Program (EMPT) and Current Distribution, Electromagnetic Fields, Grounding and Soil Structure Analysis (CDEGS).
    • Detailed knowledge and experience of power system development and operation.
    • Estimating and quoting experience as applied in the electrical consulting environment.

    The role involves supervising and coordinating work of more junior team members providing technical support, maintain relationships with existing clients and be the interface between Entura and respective client, act as the Technical Lead for connection application studies, Generator Performance Standards (GPS) compliance assessments, model overlays and model validation in PSSE and PSCAD and Project management of smaller projects.

    You have experience in the following areas:

    • 10+ years’ experience.
    • Tertiary qualifications in Electrical Engineering.
    • Practical experience of 7+ years, predominantly in the space of grid connections, Generator Performance Standards (GPS) compliance assessments, power system studies.
    • Has worked on both connection applications for a number of years as well as hold point testing, GPS compliance assessments and model overlays, and is well aware of regulatory requirements.
    • Ideally CPEng, RPEQ, RPEV credentials.
    • Able to diagnose and trouble-shoot independently (both in software PSSE, PSCAD, Python, etc as well as technical issues, i.e. understand the underlying real world physics).
    • Modelling software experience using:
      • PSSE essential
      • PSCAD essential
      • Powerfactory
      • SINCAL highly desired
      • Python and Matlab highly desired

    The Opportunity

    We have a growing portfolio of projects, and this role has arisen to contribute to the success of our growing team. This opportunity is open to any of our Entura office locations in Melbourne or Hobart. The focus of this role will be to contribute your knowledge and expertise of electrical engineering and power systems across a range of multi-disciplinary projects both here in Australia and internationally.

    You will also leverage your contacts in the electricity network with utilities, OEMs, members of CIGRE, leaders in the transmission and substations area in the electricity industry to raise the profile of the work we do here at Entura.

    • Provide specialist technical input to a diverse range of projects.
    • Be part of the team to pursue, develop and deliver present and future planned Renewable Energy and transmission projects.
    • Serve as the subject matter expert for clients who wish to develop, design, maintain, expand, upgrade or rebuild their transmission and distribution infrastructure, and work closely with them ensuring their assets are developed and operated effectively and safely across the full lifecycle.
    • Liaise with, support and lead multi-disciplinary Entura teams that support all phases and aspects of, transmission projects, from planning and approvals through to defining the route, designing the structure and line, and selecting conductors.  

    About You

    You are a subject matter expert in your field, and you enjoy sharing in the success of a broader team. You have a background working in the energy sector with significant understanding and knowledge of Power Transmission and Distribution from a consulting perspective.

    Your skills and experience will include:

    • Adaptability to work in multidisciplinary teams and changing situations.
