Synaco are partnered with our long-standing client, a global contributor within the mining and resources sector, to find our newest team member to join their operations in the Northern Territory. Located in the Gulf of Carpentaria, an exciting opportunity has become available for an experienced ASD Tug Operator to join the Port and Logistics team.

Working on a one week on-one week off roster, the FIFO points offered for this position will be from Cairns or Darwin only; any applicants who reside elsewhere would be required to travel to and from one of these locations at their own expense. Meals and accommodation will be provided whilst on site.

To be considered for this opportunity you must meet the following essential criteria (or be willing to obtain prior to mobilising):

  • A minimum ASD Master under 35m< Near Coastal Certificate of Competency or equivalent, along with certifications in Long Range Operator Certificate of Proficiency (LROCP) or its equivalent;
  • Engineer Class 3 (Consideration will be given for MED1 with sea time);
  • Current statements of attainment in Provide First Aid and Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR);
  • A current AMSA Medical applicable to your Certificate of Competency;
  • A valid MSIC or 'Job Ready' MSIC Application;
  • Full Australian working rights; and
  • Current, manual driver’s licence.

The key responsibilities of this role will include:

  • Performing harbour towage, in line with the operational plan;
  • Acting as Engineer when not performing Master duties;
  • Taking command of the Tug and its crew when acting as Master;
  • Completing preventative, corrective and statutory maintenance on the vessel supported by the maintenance teams;
  • Raising and completing SAP work orders for vessel maintenance;
  • Maintaining 100% compliance and completion of planned maintenance tasks;
  • Coordinating the attendance of crew as required for operations, the provision of stores, and ensuring readiness for operations;
  • Ensuring compliance with site’s authorised policies and procedures, in alignment with statutory obligations including quality assurance and ISM procedures;
  • Managing crew discipline, alignment with company policies and procedures whilst living to its Core Values;
  • Supervising and assisting with Tug maintenance as necessary;
  • Completing the required operational reports and vessel logs to a high standard;
  • Induction and training of visitors, employees and other authorised personnel;
  • Leading and motivating the vessel crew on familiarisation and compliance with the safety management system;
  • Participating in safety training and operational improvement exercises;
  • Skills and competency training including the training of other crew members and trainees; and
  • Reviewing and updating operational procedures and safe work instructions.

  • $65.00 - $67.50 per hour flat rate
  • 10% loading on hours worked outside of shift times
