Job Description

The General Manager will have full P&L responsibility for the business and will be responsible for developing and executing strategic initiatives to drive growth and profitability. This role requires a leader with proven expertise in managing diverse teams and functions, the ability to work collaboratively with the cross functional leadership, and the skills to foster a culture of innovation and accountability.

  • Strategic Leadership: Develop, execute, and monitor the strategic direction and operational plans for the business in alignment with the global companies vision and business goals.
  • Sales & Customer Relationships: Build and maintain strong relationships with major Australian retailers, including Coles, Woolworths, and independent supermarkets, to drive sales and market presence.
  • Team Management: Lead a significant team of employees across multiple functions, fostering a high-performance culture, promoting collaboration, and driving accountability. Lead initiatives for cultural transformation and continuous improvement.
  • Direct Oversight: Provide direction and oversight to direct reports in finance, supply chain, operations and logistics, sales, marketing, and technology. Ensure functional alignment with business goals and efficient interdepartmental communication.
  • Financial Management: Take ownership of P&L and budget management, focusing on cost efficiencies, revenue growth, and margin enhancement. Regularly report financial performance to the CEO.
  • Operations and Logistics: Oversee supply chain, inventory management, and logistics functions to ensure operational efficiency and customer satisfaction.
  • Sales & Marketing Strategy: Lead sales and marketing teams to grow market share, enhance brand presence, and capture new business opportunities.
  • Innovation and Technology: Partner with the technology team to identify and implement digital and operational improvements to drive efficiency and customer satisfaction.
  • Stakeholder Management: Serve as the primary liaison between the business and the larger global owner, reporting to the Group Head and collaborating with other business units to support shared goals.
  • Compliance and Risk Management: Ensure that the companies operations comply with regulatory requirements and implement risk management strategies as needed.

The Successful Applicant

A successful General Manager should have:

  • Experience in a leadership role, ideally within FMCG, manufacturing, cleaning supplies or a similar sector, with strong general management, P&L responsibility, and multi-functional team leadership.
  • Demonstrated relationships with key Australian retailers such as Coles, Woolworths, and independent supermarkets.
  • Proven experience driving sales growth, culture change, and fostering a high-performance environment.
  • Experience in both medium and large FMCG businesses in Australia, with a preference for experience in cleaning or household products.
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Management, or a related field; an MBA or relevant postgraduate degree is preferred.
  • Proven track record of leading diverse teams and inspiring them toward high performance; excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to translate the global businesses overarching goals into a clear, actionable plan for the local business, with measurable KPIs and objectives.
  • Strong financial and operational management skills with a keen focus on budgeting, forecasting, and profit enhancement.
  • Flexibility to travel regularly in Australia for business needs
