About the role

V/Line Conductors have people at the heart of their work and take pride in the positive impact they have on our customers and communities. As a key member of V/Line’s front line customer service team, the V/Line Conductor is responsible for the delivery of on train customer service to V/Line customers as well as customer safety on board trains.

The Conductor role is highly autonomous therefore you’ll possess a level of maturity, previous success in operating in a safety and time critical environment and an absolute commitment to providing superior customer service. 

Key Accountabilities include:

  • Provide high level of customer service to the travelling public
  • Uphold V/Line’s commitment to safe, reliable journeys
  • Assist customers with checked luggage and loading onto coaches
  • Sell and check tickets whilst onboard train and ensure safe departure of train, reporting any faults and delays where appropriate
  • Provide customers with information on services and further travel

New Conductors are offered the following:

  • Ongoing, part-time employment
  • Guaranteed 16 hours per fortnight
  • Additional shifts scheduled across the roster
  • Paid training rate $33.1933 p/hr +super 
  • Qualified rate of $44.3440 p/hr +super 
  • Generous leave loading
  • Free Myki travel

About youYou’re a confident, customer-focused individual, with a background of face-to-face customer service, able to work a rotating roster including weekends, public holidays, early and late shifts and hold a valid driver’s license.

You know how to adapt your communication to different customer groups and handle difficult situations on an autonomous level.

Our ideal candidate will possess the following:

·         Demonstrated alignment to V/Line’s values of responsiveness, integrity, impartiality, accountability, respect, leadership and human rights.

·         Strong verbal and written communication skills

·         Ability to work within rules and compliance frameworks

·         Friendly customer service skills

·         Strong safety awareness

·         Physical fitness for duty to satisfy a Category 3 Conductor medical assessment
