About the role
The Grampian’s Health Ballarat Respiratory Unit is a specialist Respiratory Unit with expertise in Sleep Medicine. We offer a full time 6 month accredited Advanced Training (AT) position in Respiratory Medicine offered outside the PMCV match or a full time 12-month Respiratory Medicine Registrar role ideal for candidates intending future application to the PMCV respiratory match.
- Enjoy a mix of ambulatory and inpatient respiratory and sleep medicine
- Gain exposure to NIV, lung function, sleep reporting and interventional pulmonology
- Scheduled education and training, quality assurance and service development opportunities
- Outpatient clinics include a Rapid Access Lung Clinic, Complex Respiratory Medicine and Public General Respiratory Medicine Clinic
- Opportunities for the respiratory AT to undertake a major research project
Key Responsibilities
- Inpatient duties include admitting patients referred directly from the emergency department, daily inpatient management, consultation requests
- Supervise and educate junior medical and non-medical staff in patient assessment and management where appropriate
- Participate in and administer relevant committees and meetings
- Responsibility for daily ward round and responding to all relevant inpatient and outpatient referrals
- Undertake a major service development, quality assurance or research project in addition to presentation of bronchoscopy data and agreed topics at the Respiratory Journal Club and hospital Grand Round
Skills & Experience
- Registration as a legally qualified medical practitioner with AHPRA
- Eligibility for registration with the RACP for Advanced Training (in select circumstances BPT may be considered for the role)
- Two nights per week first on-call and 1 in 4 weekends with afterhours first on-call (Saturday and Sunday 0800-1100)
- Sound knowledge of human biology and its alternation in acute and chronic disease
