About Us

The People and Culture Office (PCO) is an integral part of the business strategy and decision-making process. We are a team of collaborative HR professionals, dedicated to strategic and operational programs and services that support both staff and organisational objectives.

As the leader of our integral Employee Relations division, you will be committed to fostering a positive workplace culture, offering expert ER and IR advice and support and ensuring compliance with employment laws and policies.

The Opportunity – People and Culture Manager, Employee Relations

In this fundamental role, you will lead the Employee Relations team, at the forefront of driving strategic initiatives in line with the University’s goals. You will collaborate with PCO and the Health, Safety and Wellbeing Office to provide specialist advice on ER matters, coordinate projects, and represent the University in external forums.

Your teams’ key deliverables will include:

  • Service Delivery & Case Management
    Support leaders and employees with case management, including fitness for work assessments, performance management, grievance cases, and industrial case preparation.
  • Employee/Industrial Relations Advice and Support
    Provide internal advisory support on business papers, legislative changes, EBA, and strategic projects. Offer guidance on organizational changes, ER, and IR.
  • Policy and Procedure Review
    Develop and manage compliance for all PCO policies and procedures, establish new ones in line with EBA and legal requirements, and review existing policies according to expiry dates.
  • Relationship Management and Communication
    Liaise with and report to key IR/ER organisations and regulatory bodies, such as NTEU, FWC, OFWO, EEO, and AHEIA.

What you’ll bring to this role

  • A masters or bachelor’s degree in HR, Law or a related field
  • 8+ years’ experience in employee relations with a strong grasp on HR principles and practices and expertise in interpreting legislation and policies
  • Excellent ability to persuade and influence, build trust, and maintain positive relationships. Superior written communication for professional reports and policy development.
  • Proven ability to lead and develop teams, with high-level project planning and organisational skills.
  • Strong track record in managing complex employee relations issues and providing effective solutions.
