What the role is all about

We are seeking a versatile and collaborative Senior Product Designer to join the team and contribute to our mission of alleviating the stress in finding and managing a home loan for every Australian.

The ideal candidate will be passionate about solving and designing for complex systems primarily on web and some mobile experiences, to champion design, drive broker and client-first thinking in revolutionising the loan application process.

  • Play a crucial and leading role to inspire teams to go beyond good usability to delight end users to design visually appealing and intuitive solutions on our mortgage broking systems. 
  • Work alongside product managers, engineers, mortgage brokers and clients, to collaboratively build tools and experiences for brokers to efficiently help their clients apply and manage their home loan.
  • Be the design advocate in the end-to-end product development process, from product vision to conception and build.
  • Be collaborating with and learn from our growing design community.

Who we’re looking for someone with:

  • 8+ years of experience designing products, with a proven track record of leading projects from vision to launch, enough process to get the job done.
  • Growth mindset and passion for continuously learning and navigating the constraints of complexity - meeting lending compliance needs to design experiences within the constraints.
  • Drive cultural change to strengthen cross-team, cross functional collaboration and communication in a tech-led team.
  • Strategic design thinking aligning with business objectives and broker needs.
  • Advocate for user centricity, influencing product and tech leaders.
  • Flexibility and resilience to work through storming and ambiguous situations constructively.
  • Expert knowledge of industry-standard design tools (e.g., Figma, Miro, Protopie and Dovetail).
  • Experience in the home loan process, mortgage broking industry or fintech is highly preferred.

A few things you’ll be doing day to day:

  • Lead the end-to-end design process for our mortgage broking systems.
  • Collaborating with leadership and cross-functional teams to shape, bring designs to life to deliver on the product vision in a way that meets business objectives.
  • Drive user-centered design by conducting research, usability testing, and facilitating workshops with brokers, translating insights into practical, elegant solutions that address their needs.
  • Planning and prioritising design work using a lean mindset.
  • Assessing user needs, competitive landscape, and technical constraints to inform product decisions.
  • Conducting qualitative and quantitative research to validate design solutions and gain user insights.
  • Presenting work and participating in design critiques to ensure consistency and quality outcomes.
  • Mentoring and coaching emerging designers to foster their growth and skills.

Where the design team fits in


The Senior Product Designer will be a member of the Financial Services design team and part of the Application Capture and Workflow squads, which comprises a product manager, engineers, delivery leads, business analysts and quality assurance.

The mission of this squad is to evolve Broker Platform and accompanying systems for Brokers and their clients to more efficiently build and submit loan applications. All design teams across REA are part of the wider Design Community, where there are events throughout the year to participate and connect with other designers across the business.
