Position Summary

The Department of Anaesthetics, Perioperative Medicine and Pain Medicine requires a Research Assistant to help with the conduct of Clinical Trials within the department. Applicants are invited to join an exciting research team focused on pharmacogenomics in the perioperative period. The research assistant will coordinate and deliver direct and indirect care and associated data collection for pharmacogenomic trials and assist with other research studies undertaken in the department. The research assistant will practice in accordance with the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) Note for Guidance on Good Clinical Practice (CPMP/ICH/135/95) and the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) National Statement on Ethical Conduct in Research Involving Humans. This role requires meticulous adherence to trial protocols, a commitment to safe work practices, and significant organisational and project management skills. The successful candidate will be capable of working in an independent manner within an existing team.

1. To effectively follow clinical research protocols

  • Follow clinical trial protocols and conduct clinical research trials is in accordance with TGA ICH GCP and the NHMRC National Statement on Ethical Conduct in Research Involving Humans 
  • Willingness to learn.
  • Thorough and accurate note- and record-keeping. 
  • Able to make appropriate clinical and professional autonomous decisions as required & seek clarification where necessary. 
  • Maintain a flexible approach to working hours in order to meet the requirements of research protocols and subject recruitment (including evening and weekends as required).
  • Liaise with all involved groups/departments to ensure all biological samples are collected, processed, stored as per protocol.

2. Responsibility for Biospecimen collection, processing and banking. 

  • Proficiency in biospecimen processing and research sample preparation. 
  • Co-ordination of biospecimen labelling, banking and shipping. 
  • Accurate and timely entry of data. 
  • Timely upkeep of stocks and consumables.
  • Maintaining a clean and organised work environment.
