North Sydney, Australia cimic Full time

About North East Link

The Spark Consortium has been selected to deliver the Central Package of the North East Link Project - Victoria's biggest road project. The Spark Consortium’s Design and Construction Contractor - which comprises Webuild, CPB Contractors, GS Engineering and Construction and China Construction Oceania - will deliver the twin three-lane tunnels and key interchanges for the project.

The Central Package will be delivered as a Public Private Partnership and provides three-lane twin tunnels that will close the missing link in Melbourne’s freeway network from the M80 Ring Road to an upgraded Eastern Freeway, reducing journey times and diverting heavy vehicles away from local roads. Up to 135,000 vehicles will use North East Link every day, reducing congestion in the north-east while maintaining local roads.

About the Opportunity

We are currently seeking applications from  Environment Coordinators or Advisors to join our team on the Spark North East Link project. This role will be responsible for ensuring project compliance with relevant environmental legislation, regulations, and contractual obligations related to the construction, design, and operation of the North East Link Project. This role involves developing, implementing, and maintaining project environmental plans and procedures, and performing all required environmental monitoring and assessment in line with the environmental management system.

Key Responsibilities:

Assist in developing and implementing strategies and initiatives that foster a high-performance culture and employee engagement, including defining performance and behavioral expectations for individuals, teams, and the overall project. Monitor and manage operational activities to ensure they meet environmental requirements. Oversee the daily delivery of the project’s environmental functions. Conduct environmental reviews, field inspections, and site assessments. Support the SHEQ manager by liaising with regulatory bodies, ensuring compliance, and solving high-level issues by advising operational management on environmental matters. Conduct site inspections and audit operational activities against environmental permits. Prepare compliance reports and progressively update compliance registers. Participate in environmental audits and oversee the closure of audit actions. Promote awareness of environmental protection policies, strategies, and other regulatory requirements within the project. Assist in the ongoing development and continuous improvement of the Construction Environmental Management Plan (CEMP).

Minimum Requirements for the Position:

Qualifications & Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Science, Sustainability, or other associated discipline. Postgraduate qualifications (e.g., graduate certificate or diploma) in Environmental Engineering, Risk, Sustainability, Project Management, or other associated disciplines. Infrastructure Sustainability (IS) Training for Professionals. Experience in project system implementation. Audit management practices. Specialist knowledge in environmental management and sustainability.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Sound understanding of environmental management and sustainability principles and their application within the construction industry. Experience in quantitative and qualitative risk assessment and monitoring of risk controls and actions in project delivery and implementation. Knowledge of environmental legislation and statutes, with the ability to interpret relevant laws and regulations. Ability to lead high-level investigations involving multiple internal and external parties. Proficiency in monitoring, reviewing, investigative review techniques, reporting, and continuous improvement on performance and compliance.

SPARK is committed to equal employment opportunity (EEO) and actively seeks to remove barriers people may face in gaining a successful position on the North East Link Central Package.
